In this unit, we will be learning to developmentally edit an academic book for the #writing book series. We will analyze the mission of the series and the press in which it’s published, review the book proposal, read and understand the publishing contracts and their contexts, and evaluate the chapters drafts the author has provided us.
Our goal is to learn how developmental editing differs in attention, style, and levels of feedback compared to copy-editing, and to build a working relationship with an author, to help them through this process. By the end of this unit, you will have learned to
- evaluate in-progress work given its publishing contexts
- provide developmental feedback in a professional manner through specific editorial genres
- build a working, professional relationship with an author through discursive means
